Speakers will be carefully selected for their unique and highly professional level of expertise in the scientific study and examination of Tai Chi and Qigong.
The academic arm of the symposium is twofold and includes researcher and tai chi/qigong practitioner tracks. Many of the leading tai chi researchers will be present and will lecture on their findings related to the efficacy of Tai Chi with regard to quality of life, physical function including activity tolerance and cardiovascular function, pain management, balance and risk of falls reduction, immune response, flexibility, strength, kinesthetic sense, arthritis, cancer, and stress management. Physicians will also discuss the integration of Tai Chi and other complimentary and alternative modalities with traditional western clinical practice. For the practitioner track, master practitioners have been invited to share their knowledge with the academic community via oral and poster presentations on topics such as hypotheses on mechanisms and benefits of tai chi practice, best tai chi practices, pedagogy, teaching special populations, and dissemination.
