Shin LinShin Lin, Ph.D. is Professor of Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering, and Integrative Medicine at University of California, Irvine.  He received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry at UCLA, followed by postdoctoral training in Biochemistry and Biophysics at University of California, San Francisco. His previous academic appointments include Professor and Chair of Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University, Visiting Professor at the Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine, and Chair of Biofield Energy Think Tank of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.  Starting as a teenager in Hong Kong, Dr. Lin has trained with top leaders in several styles of Chinese martial arts.  Since the 1980’s, he has been concentrating on Tai Chi and Qigong, training with Grandmaster CHEN Zheng-Lei, the 19th Generation Heir of Chen style Tai Chi for the past 7 years.  His research is focused on physiological and bioenergetic changes associated with mind-body practices, and comparing them to physical exercises, acupuncture, and massage therapies.  In 2003, he founded the International Alliance for Mind-Body Signaling and Energy Research, which includes ~20 scientists in the U.S., China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Germany.  Dr. Lin is currently serving as Co-Chair of the World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Co-Creator and Science Editor of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day organization, and a member of the editorial boards of Chinese Medicine and Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, and the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.
