Robert D. Sheeler, M.D is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine
He attended Grinnell College in Grinnell Iowa and graduated with honors in Chemistry and Biology. He subsequently went to Medical School at the University of California at San Diego in La Jolla, California.

Dr. Sheeler has a busy clinical practice and has served as the Chair of high volume urgent care centers as well as being the Clinical Practice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic.

He has been the Medical Editor of the Mayo Clinic Health Letter, an educational publication for the lay audience for the past decade. The Health Letter currently has an international circulation of over 600,000 and is published in several languages.

He has a longstanding interest in both teaching and pharmacology. He currently chairs the Mayo Foundation Task Force on Neuropsychiatric Medications as well as being the Course director for the Clinical Family Medicine Core Clerkship. In his teaching roles Dr. Sheeler has done substantial work in curriculum development often adding holistic and complementary medical elements to the standard curriculum.

His current research focus is headache medicine but he has also done work in educational research and the application of rapid strep testing.  He has lectured widely on complementary and alternative medicine approaches to the treatment of headache.

Dr. Sheeler has had the privilege of studying Taiji and Qigong with several wise and compassionate teachers and incorporates this both into his daily life and into his clinical and teaching work with patients and students. He finds the pragmatic combination of traditional Western Medicine plus practices such as Taiji/Qigong often provide the best outcome for the patient as a whole person.
