Weimo Zhu, Ph.D.

Dr. Weimo Zhu is a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. An internationally known scholar in physical activity and health research, he has extensive research, teaching and leadership experience. He has authored/co-authored more than 90 refereed research/proceeding papers, one book and 10 book chapters. He co-edited two books and received 75 external research grants including ones from NIH and RWJF. He presented 279 research papers and organized 16 symposiums at national and international conferences. He is the associate editor of the Journal of Physical Activity and Health and was the guest/feature editor of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise and Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He was the section editor of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sports from 1999 to 2005, and is on the editorial board of five other refereed journals. He is a fellow of the Research Consortium (RC), American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and served on the Science Board of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He is a member of the FITNESSGRAM advisory committee. He was the chair of the Measurement and Evaluation Council, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and served on the RC board from 1998 to 2001. Working with AAHPERD, ACSM, and the Cooper Institute, he has organized/co-organized three major international conferences on physical activity and aging/diversity and walking for health, and is serving on a number of national committees or taskforces. He has practiced Qi Gong for more than 25 years and has been very active in the introduction of Qi Gong to the United States and around the world. He regularly teaches Qi Gong both in university and community settings and has given lectures on Qi Gong and related research in China, South Korea and Czech Republic. He was awarded a NIH grant recently to study the effect of long-term Guo Lin Qi Gong practice on cancer survivors and presented the research findings at this year’s ACSM annual meeting.
